Dan Shores

Daniel L. Shores is the Chairman of Shores & Oliver, P.C. (“S&O”) and oversees its Litigation, Due Diligence & Opinions, and Technology Transactions practice groups.
Dan is a highly skilled and experienced IP lawyer who is passionate about providing premium client service and work product in a cost-effective manner, which is directly consistent with S&O’s client service philosophy. Dan has handled numerous complex IP matters for companies of all sizes throughout his career, from startups to Fortune 500 companies. He is committed to providing services that help his clients achieve their key business objectives and add value to their bottom line.
Dan's experience includes in-depth litigation, due diligence, prosecution, licensing, and other transactional work on matters concerning a broad range of technologies. In the medical device and biotech space Dan has worked on numerous matters, including, but not limited to, matters relating to fiber-optic probes for tissue investigation; glucose sensing technology; pharmaceutical treatment of rhinitis with levocetirizine; porcine skin graft technology, antimicrobial skin moisturizer; pharmaceutical treatment of hepatitis B with telbivudine; and other complex medical device and pharmaceutical matters.
Prior to founding S&O, Dan worked as an attorney at the global law firm Latham & Watkins, LLP and the intellectual property boutique firm Rothwell, Figg, Ernst & Manbeck, P.C., both in Washington, DC. He also served as an executive officer of the esteemed Giles S. Rich American Inn of Court, the nation's flagship Intellectual Property Inn of Court located at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, DC.
Dan is a member of the Boston Bar Association and Boston Patent Law Association (“BPLA”) and serves on the BPLA’s Medical Devices Committee. He has served on panels to discuss IP issues and been selected as a “Super Lawyers” “Rising Star" for IP in each of 2013, 2014, and 2015.
Dan received his Juris Doctor from The Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC and served on the Editorial Board of its law review The Georgetown Law Journal. Dan holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire where he specialized in materials science and was the team leader of an award-winning senior design project.
Dan is a registered patent attorney licensed to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office and is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts, the District of Columbia, and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
In the community, Governor Charles D. Baker recently appointed Dan to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees for Massachusetts Maritime Academy. In that role, Dan and other Trustees are responsible for overseeing the management of the Academy which has an annual budget in excess of $50 million dollars.

Anthony regularly advises our nonprofit organization clients with respect to formation and their pursuit of federal tax-exempt status, corporate governance, fiduciary duties, executive compensation, charitable solicitation compliance, and charitable and volunteer immunity. He also counsels these organizations with respect to their social enterprise, lobbying and political campaign, and investment management activities. Anthony also counsels our nonprofit organization clients involved in merger transactions, dissolutions, spin-offs, and other transfers of charitable assets.
His practice also includes negotiating business arrangements, providing advice to boards of directors and senior management concerning a broad range of matters, including shareholder meetings and proxy contests, and coordinating executive compensation programs and stock-based incentive plans.
Before joining the firm, Anthony served as general counsel to a publicly traded apparel retailer.
